Acne

Acne is a very common skin condition that afflicts many people during their teen years. However, the disease is not restricted to any age group. Acne may continue into or can even start in adulthood. Acne causes clogged pores (blackheads and whiteheads) and pimples on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders, and upper arms. Although acne is caused by several factors, medical treatment can drastically improve the appearance of acne. Dirt and frequent or vigorous cleansing techniques may even worsen the condition. Dr. Wassef uses the latest techniques, medicines, and chemical peels to treat acne and its unwanted effects.

Acne Keloidalis Nuchae

This condition occurs when hairs on the back of the head and neck grow into the skin and become inflamed. This causes scar tissue and can be very uncomfortable. Acne Keloidalis Nuchae is more common in people with stiff or curly hair. There are multiple medical dermatology treatment options that Dr. Wassef offers including antibiotics, steroid gels, or intralesional steroid injections.

Acanthosis Nigricans

This disorder causes light brown to black markings that usually occur on the neck, under the arms, or in the groin area. Acanthosis Nigricans can occur at any age; however, it is most often associated with obesity and diabetes. Dr. Wassef offers cosmetic dermatology treatments for this condition including tretinoin, 20% urea, alpha hydroxyacids, and lactic or salicylic acid prescriptions.

They are caused by excessive sun exposure due to ultraviolet damage to the skin, and can be the first step to the development of skin cancer. They can evolve into squamous cell carcinoma. Dr. Wassef can discuss skin cancer treatments and the other modalities to treat and control actinic damage to the skin.

Actinic Purpura

Dr. Wassef has successfully cases of alopecia areata treatment in both men and women.

Angiomas

An angioma is a benign growth that consists of small blood vessels, and these tumors can be located anywhere on the body.
