Just like you change your clothes as the seasons change should you be changing your skincare routine. It’s important to be especially diligent during the summertime when the temperatures are hot, and the sun is beaming. As you’re showing more skin during the summer months, there are several steps you could take to make sure your skincare is A1. Below are some summer skincare tips from our
Delray dermatologist.
Lighten Up Your Product Load
While in the winter we tend to use cream or oil-based moisturizers, in the summer you want to focus on hydrating, rather than moisturizing. During the summer, add serums, gels, and mists to your skincare routine. Lightening up on your products will allow for you to feed and hydrate your skin, rather than stimulating it so much that it creates more oil.
Stay Hydrated
Higher temperatures and more time outdoors can lead to greater dehydration. There’s absolutely no question to it: staying hydrated is the key to firm, even, brighter skin, and overall better health. Drinking water helps to maintain the moisture balance of the body and the skin.
Apply and Reapply Sunscreen
Find a good sunscreen and use it as your sidekick all summer long, such as a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which provides protection from harmful UVA, UVB, and infrared rays. Apply the sunscreen at least every two hours when you’re out in the sun.
Exfoliate Your Skin
Our cosmetic dermatologist in Palm Beach suggests exfoliating about twice a week during the summertime. Exfoliating your skin helps to remove dead skin cells, sweat, dirt, and other toxins that can clog your pores. Make sure you are not over-exfoliating, as this will injure your skin more than help it.
Protect Your Lips
The lips are often overlooked when it comes to skincare protection. This area of the face is prone to sunburn and wearing gloss can worsen sun damage on your lips. Make sure any product you’re applying to your lips, especially during the day, has SPF in it.
At the Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery Institute, we’re no stranger to the hot sun and its damaging rays at our South Florida dermatology center. We know that following these summer skincare tips can not only protect you during these hot months but also protect you in the long run from conditions like skin cancer.
Your summer skincare routine should not include any harsh products that can irritate your skin, especially while spending time in the sun. Consulting with a
